The 2012 ICAS Liberty Tennis Classic

On Saturday, September 22nd, USTA/Virginia Tennis assisted the Institute for Corean-American Studies (ICAS, www.icasinc.org) in hosting the 3rd Annual ICAS Liberty Tennis Classic at The Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, VA. The tennis director of this tournament was Chi Wan Kim, a former Captain for Davis Cup Team Korea and an olympian of the Barcelona Summer Olympic 1992, and current tennis commissioner for ICAS. This one day, USTA-sanctioned, round robin tournament brought in 42 participants competing in four divisions: men's open doubles, mixed open doubles, boys 18 under open singles, and girls 18 under open singles. At the end of the night, Seung Hun Ok and Duk Hyun Park won the men's open doubles, Young Kon Kim and Jung Zandbergen won the mixed open doubles, Chisu Edwards won the boys 18 under open singles, and Kyu Bin Lee won the girls 18 under open singles.

The 1st place winners and finalists received ICAS Liberty medals for their efforts. A special Summa Cum Laude medal was also awarded to Ambassador Kathleen Stephens and Chisu Edwards, the boys division winner, received as a prize a certificate good for $1500 of services at Ivan Lendl IJTA Port Royal Racquet Club (Hilton Head Island, SC). All participants received polo-shirts, education materials, and enjoyed gourmet hors d'oeuvre snacks and Korean cuisine smorgasbord while viewing ICAS major programs slides.

The mission of this event is to invest in youth development and to promote sports diplomacy.
